what happens if things go wrong with your website over christmas?

It happens. Best laid plans and all that. Websites do sometimes seem to have a mind of their own, and sometimes decide to play up, just when you absolutely don’t need them to. Like when you’re about to launch a new product or a new line. Or, when you have a time sensitive offer which absolutely depends on your website being online and visible.

Or, worst timing of all – over the Christmas period when everyone is stuffing their faces with turkey and mince pies and quaffing fizz. When everyone has downed tools and most likely isn’t checking in on emails. That time, when you need your website to be absolutely perfect because you have that New Sale about to launch, or you need to check in on orders that may have come in late. That kind of thing.

And all of a sudden your Christmas is over, as you are in a panic, trying to get some help from your website designer. Whose phone goes to voicemail. Whose emails come back with an “Out of Office” message. Who is probably doing exactly what you want to do – enjoy the festive season. And who can blame them?

But – that doesn’t help you. You are still in a state of panic. You are getting calls or messages about your website bing down, from people who want to engage with you, and possibly make purchases. So, what happens now? Well, if you work with us, we may be able to get your Christmas back on track…

We take time off over Christmas. We have family who will be with us. We will be seeing friends. We’ll be out and about, walking off the festive excesses and exploring where we live. But, we will be at home. We don’t lock up our offices on Christmas Eve and walk away from them from until after New Year. Our home is also our office, and we don’t just use our laptops to do work. We use them as part of our lives – checking a recipe, reading a review of a film, ordering things. So, they are almost always switched on, or accessible. The same as emails – we don’t do “Out of Office”, so emails still pop in, as lots of friends communicate with us too, via email. Meaning we will always see an email. Maybe not as soon as you send it, but definitely not as late as in the New Year, when everyone finally returns to work.

This means that if something is really, really, really urgent, it’s more than likely that we’ll be able to take a look and assess what we need to do. Obviously, we’re not going to be available to upload some new imagery to your website, or add a new section, if you’ve had some time on your hands and have decided you fancy a change. That kind of thing will have to wait until Christmas is over – but if you do want changes, just make a list and we’ll be onto it, because what better time than New Year for a new look?

We want to be fair to clients, and reassure you that if you genuinely need us, when most other people are not working, we’ll do what we can to help. We just need, in return, that you are fair to us and understand that whilst we are here for you, in an emergency, it’s our downtime, too. Things happen with websites and emails, and we can’t promise that nothing will go wrong, but hopefully, all will be OK – and we can all have time to relax with family and friends, and party. But, we will be contactable – preferably by email (helen@wearelife.co.uk) but if you need to call, you can reach us on 0161 445 7759. You might just need to wait a bit longer for a call back, especially if the cava is flowing…
