What’s a vintage car got to do with design, you might ask?

"

website mots & more…

Well, cars need looking after, regularly. And as we all know, the older they are, the more prone they can be to faults. Bits stop working as effectively. Noises start to happen. Petrol doesn’t seem to go as far as it used to. All of those under-the-bonnet things that once worked so smoothly, don’t seem to be doing so well. And the interior starts to look a bit more tired and worn. You maybe don’t clean it as much as you used to, as you and the car have lost a bit of mojo. Luckily, your annual MOT will usually highlight problems and you can get things fixed and the car responds and starts to drive and perform better. And when you do that big clean of the car and get it waxed and clear out all of the accumulated rubbish and give it an internal polish, you feel a lot better about it and vow to never let it get in that state again.

Well, it’s exactly the same with websites. You put a car through an MOT to ensure it’s fit for purpose. So, why not your website? Why not have a Website MOT and a good old TLC session? Now you can, with the new service we are offering to our clients.

SUB HEADING

The world of websites now changes and develops rapidly. Even just a few years ago, we could expect to just let websites tick along and tackle any issues when they arose. That’s not an option now. Things are improved and updated regularly – which is great – but, sometimes these improvements and updates can cause conflicts in the background of your website and unless we are now regularly monitoring, these conflicts can cause untold mayhem. As you will know from recent communications, hacking and malicious practices are now much more common – M&S anyone? – and we need to ensure that we are offering a robust service which minimises the opportunities for hacking but also offers quick solutions. All of these new areas we have to deal with, take us away from our core love – design – but it is now vital that we have measures and practices in place.

As you will appreciate, these measures can’t be implemented free of charge across everyone’s website. However, if they are seen as an “insurance” rather than yet another outgoing, they may make more sense. None will be forced on clients – all we can do is give you the information for you to decide what level of “insurance”, if any, you want. You can opt for the whole package, or select one of the ones we have created which you think will suit you most appropriately. This will mean, going forward, should any issues arise, you will be “covered” for the level you have chosen and we would ensure that the issue was resolved.

We know that some clients, for whatever reason, will decide not to opt for any level of cover. This is absolutely fine, as things may never go wrong, BUT it is essential that you know should any work need to be done on your website going forward, relating to maintenance caused by issues out of our control, we would have to charge for the work at our normal hourly rate of between £45-£60, depending on the complexity of the issue.

SERVICES

General tlc

  • Regular updating of all plug-ins, as necessary & ensuring that all plug-ins are compatible with each other, to prevent any site malfunctions;
  • Regular checks to ensure that the site is operating as it should;
  • Regular updating of WordPress themes, as necessary;
  • Regular checks to ensure that your site is compliant with the latest recommended version of PHP – this will mean that you will not be reliant on additional support from IONOS, for using an older version. IONOS charge for this and we would have to pass the cost on to you;
  • Reminders to you, when your email inbox is reaching capacity, so that you have no disruption when sending/receiving
  • Installing back up software, as a matter of course for paying clients – doing this before any issue occurs, which may require the website to be restored, rather than doing it retrospectively. Back ups would be performed every month, on the last working day of the month, with no disruption to your website;
  • Regular testing of key forms/checkout processes as applicable;
  • Regular checks for broken links/404 errors

Special Support

This is more of a premium service, which includes all of the above, plus the below, for a fee of £??? per month.

  • Ongoing support for clients who choose to update their own websites, including a quick response when “things go wrong” and the cause isn’t immediately obvious;
  • There’s little that’s worse on a website than a blog which is no longer used. If you have a blog on your website and it’s become a bit static, we can kick-start it again. A blog is great way to direct people to your website and sell your services/products, but can be time-consuming and it can be difficult to write about yourself. These blogs can be quite general in nature, or specific to something you want to convey (where you would need to supply the information). Our blog is a mix of specific and general, so might give you an idea of what we can offer: /the-life-blog/ Within this targeted package we would commit to write three blogs over a period of three months, which could be extended if you wanted to continue this service.
  • Social media is a minefield these days, and if you’re not overly savvy with it, it either seems pointless or overwhelming. A place where it seems like you are either shouting into the void or constantly blocking/shutting out accounts. It doesn’t need to be like this, and when approached positively, is a fantastic tool at your fingertips. We can help to build your targeted followers, focusing on people who are more likely to engage with you, and post regular, engaging information. Not tweeting or posting for the sake of it – doing it with real purpose and always providing something for your potential followers/clients. (We focus on X (Twitter), Facebook and Instagram – we don’t post in places like Linkdin or Tik-Tok, because there just aren’t enough hours in the day. And, if you do use these platforms to promote/educate, then you don’t need us to help with your social media, as you’re all over it). Within this targeted package we would commit to post a minimum of two messages on each platform per week.

Ongoing Care

Running your own business, alongside your life, family etc can be full on and totally time-consuming leaving you no time to do those essential business admin tasks, which help to keep things orderly and organised. We ran a small, but successful, virtual admin business for a few years ago, but wound it down as our own commitments changed. However, we know that the clients who we supported found this to be a very useful and supportive service, and so we’ve taken the decision to resurrect it. Within this package, we will offer all of the above (general and targeted support), but the blog/social media work will continue for as long as you want. Additionally, we can once again offer online admin support, including

This will be the most expensive option, at a cost of £??? per month, but you will have the reassurance that we are there for you whenever you need us, and that with us taking on those tasks which have become a bit burdensome, you will be freeing up your time to spend on more pleasurable things. Life’s too short to be doing this for the sake of doing them, without any real commitment or enjoyment, so pass them over to us, and you get on doing what you love doing.
